The U.S. has “America’s Next Top Model,” the UK has “Britain’s Next Top Model,” Italy has “Italia’s Next Top Model” and finally Belarus has its own reality show “Supermodel of Belarus.”
Where is Belarus on the map? There is a buffer zone between Poland and Russia, between Europe and Asia.
It’s a former Soviet country. Belarus has communist architecture, a Soviet heritage and a free spirit and democratic mind and a European legacy. So, in despite of already existing “Miss” and modeling competitions, without any financial support an enthusiast and a humanitarian, Angelina Gromchenko, started producing “Supermodel of Belarus.”
The first season of the project got enormous national acclaim: more than 60% of the population has watched the show broadcast on RU.TV. The second season promises to be even more successful. It will be carried by Europa Plus. There will be no size, height or age limits for the professional models.
Some well-known supermodels serve as judges of the contest, top model Valentina Belianka, based in New York and famous Belarusian top model Anastasia Chuchupalova, based in Minsk. After many successful contracts in Paris and Milan and working with prestigious fashion labels like Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier etc., Chuchupalova came back to Minsk to help develop the local fashion industry. Other Belarusian celebrities who will judge the contest, like top stylist Alexander Kirinyuk and fashion editor Denis Arger, are undoubted leaders in the fashion field.“Supermodel of Belarus” is the first Belarusian TV show that has a personal page in Wikipedia.
The winner of the first season was chosen on July 20, 2018, Elizaveta Dubovik. She was published in many fashion magazines and was signed by a respected agency in Europe. The winner of the second season will get a contract with a New York model agency. Thanks to the “Supermodel” project, Belarus is closer to Western culture than ever before.
